DETROITFATHER

Winters for our family have always been difficult. The extreme, cold weather here in Michigan mixed with the shorter days is honestly brutal. Now to add to the dreadful season, a global pandemic, yikes. Is it spring yet? But kids (like my daughter) don’t care or fully understand any of that. They want to have fun and stay active.

While we will be extra caution this winter than ever before, we are determined to get outside and stay active through the winter months. My daughter needs to burn off energy some way, somehow. With limited access to some of our tradition places, like museums and libraries, we are forced to get a bit more creative.

So we did a little research to find some really cool ways to stay busy this winter and wanted to share a few with you. Grab your next shopping list, just to add incase you don’t have the items handy.

  1. Indoor learning fun? Grab a few marshmallows – no not for hot cocoa this time – and put them in the microwave. Or make a snow volcano. You’ll need classic baking soda and vinegar .
  2. Snow Day? Play tic-tac-toe in the snow. Or grab the summer beach toys and build a snow castle.
  3. Cooking time? Make snow ice cream. Or yummy oreo truffle.

Remember, make every moment matter no matter the circumstances. Kids do not fully understand what is going on in the world and depend on us to make everything okay. We are all in this together and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. This may be a dark winter around the world, but it doesn’t have to be for our families.

Happy New Year, DK
